Resource Map is a free, open-source tool that helps
you make better decisions by giving a better insight into the location and
distribution of your resources. With Resource Map, our team can
collaboratively record, track, and analyse resources at a glance using a
live map.
This is my experience during PRA about Resource map...
In PRA (Participatory Rural Appraisal)
Resource Map is a very effective tool to know about the resource of the
place, and it is also a good method to involve all person at the same time as
because of its large size. Everyone can contribute their ideas and knowledge
about the place in Resource mapping. It is also a good tool to attract people’s
mind into PRA as because we use various colour and different materials as
needed it is quite interesting than other tools of PRA.
In our Resource Map at Anjan gram of Gumla
Dist. of Jharkhand we use different materials like tiles, green grasses,
coloured powder, sketch pens, sand, stone of different size, chart paper, etc.
Our team is divided into groups, the mass
mobilisation team collect the villagers for PRA. In evening the villagers came
in-front-of the Anjan mata temple, after a short talk by the teachers we start
to tell about the purpose of why we called them for a meeting and make them
understand that we are new in the village we don’t know anything about the
village we just want some information of the village from them but not only
questioning them but also using some PRA tool. And it is also told that about
tools they will be made aware before using them.

gram. (google earth)
We just provide them materials and told them
to imagine this as a resource of the village and place the resource at its
proper place by making the temple the centre. As example tiles are used at the
place of hills, sand is use as the roads, yellow powder used as river green
powder used as paddy field, stone as the temple and different colour of sketch
pens for the little sources of the village.

Legends
As the map made by the villagers is not
clearly understandable in picture so a modelling map is done by us.
The map made by the villagers.
Findings:
By resource mapping we find out the main
resource of the village according to the villagers. Those are
- · Hills
- · River
- · Temple
- · School
- · Health centre
- · Post office
- · Shops
- · Water tank
- · Well
- · Anganwari
- · Panchayat vaban etc.
Advantages Of resource map:
As it is made by the villagers himself the most important resource is included in it, which can be overlooked if a personfrom outside the village conduct a survey.
